Amelia Priest departed this life July 21, 1894 after a lingering illness borne with much patience. Amelia Young was born April 25, 1825 in Virginia at an early age she came to the state of Indiana with her parents and helped to clear and settle the home farm in Floyd Township. In 1851 she was united in marriage to Josiah Gordon to whom two children were born one dying in infancy; the other is now Mrs. BF Duncan at present residing in South Bend, Ind. In 1858 she was left a widow; May 11, 1863 she married HB Priest to whom one child was born, Mrs. FE Talburt now residing in Wichita, Kansas. Feb 26, 1880 death again robbed her of her husband. She was a woman who never forgot a kindness: many times during her last illness she would say when friends sent flowers and eatables: “How good everyone is to me. How can I ever repay their kindness?” She was a member of the Christian Church joining in 1860 and when her health permitted never failed to attend. - transcribed by kbz
